“In order to be true to my own principle, I won’t bother you with information about the different views of the flood. Let me just lay out my own assumptions. I believe Noah’s flood happened, but that it was a regional flood, not a world-wide flood…those who insist on it being a world-wide flood seem to ignore too much the scientific evidence that there was no such thing.” (Tim Keller, Genesis: What Were We Put in the World to Do? Take note of the dire warning to the Lord’s church by the Apostle Peter from his second epistle, whereby he clearly illustrates a key factor in recognizing the “scoffers” that he warns us about:
“This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance: That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Savior: Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, for this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.” 2 Peter: 3: 1-3, 5-7
What does Peter say is the identifying mark of these coming scoffers?
The denial of the worldwide flood.
In this section Keller’s denial of Noah’s flood and promotion of evolution within the church is exposed and examined. He claims that the Genesis account of creation must be poetry because “science has already proved that the biblical creation account cannot be accurate”. According to Keller, the church must not take literally the clear, concise Genesis account of what God (after defining a 24 hour day) proclaimed to have done in six days. Pastor Keller tells us that science simply does not allow for this. Keller’s authoritative source for truth is the depraved, corrupt mind of man and “science falsely so-called” (1 Tim 6:20).
Before we proceed in this section let us be reminded of Charles Darwin’s theory by reviewing the complete title of, and concept behind, his thesis:
Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons: But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.

Theistic Evolution: A Sinful Compromise (book – John M. Otis)
Pastor John M. Otis has written a great book exposing the sinful error of any form of evolutionary thought in the church of Christ, as it undermines all confidence in the Word of God and collapses the very foundation of the Cross regarding sin and the fall of mankind. The Trinity Foundation defends the Word of God:
The very foundation of the wondrous cross of Christ is the Genesis account of creation and man’s fall into sin- which corrupted God’s creation, whereby sin and death entered into the world. Believing in any form of Darwinian evolution undermines the gospel and slowly erodes any need for Christ’s finished work on the cross. As is obvious, if life began billions of years ago then death entered God’s creation long before a fully evolved man (Adam)- therefore, man would not be responsible for the fall into sin as recorded in scripture (For the wages of sin is death-Romans 6:23). Not to mention the devastating effect of such error as it relates to our confidence in the scripture as God’s inerrant Word. The consequences of believing the many voices of error invading the professing church are devastating but in the end it really comes down to this…who are you going to believe? God or man?
Charles Haddon Spurgeon, in his sermon ‘Hideous Discovery’, preached on July 25, 1886, made the following comment on evolution:
“In its bearing upon religion this vain notion is, however, no theme for mirth, for it is not only deceptive, but it threatens to be mischievous in a high degree. There is not a hair of truth upon this dog from its head to its tail, but it rends and tears the simple ones. In all its bearing upon scriptural truth, the evolution theory is in direct opposition to it. If God’s Word be true, evolution is a lie. I will not mince the matter: this is not the time for soft speaking.”
Please heed the warnings of the Apostle Paul:
O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so-called: Which some professing have erred concerning the faith. Grace be with thee. Amen. (1 Tim 1:20-21)
